Job Description
Value Creation is the fastest growing division at Malk. Through exceptionally strong relationships with investors, Malk is uniquely positioned to serve portfolio companies as they define their sustainability strategies to drive value through increased revenue, reduced cost, mitigated risks, building resilience, and setting up for exit, taking a dynamic and changing commercial and regulatory landscape into account. Oftentimes, Malk will be these companies’ first advisor in the ESG space and will play an instrumental role in shaping their ESG journey.
The role as Engagement Manager on the Value Creation team is a new one – and a critical leadership position for the continued growth of the division. The Engagement Manager will have the primary responsibility for deliverables, requiring quality and expediency across projects to maintain Malk’s brand. An Engagement Manager is also expected to support the management of Value Creation as a division, including planning, team building, and strategic development of the product and the process. The Engagement Manager will also support in business development efforts. Successful Engagement Managers leverage exceptional business strategy, organizational skills, project management skills, and PowerPoint to lead high-caliber projects for a range of clients. The Engagement Manager will report to a Senior Vice President and manage 1-3 Consultants and/or Associates.
Being an Engagement Manager on the Monitoring team is a unique opportunity to get exposure to a wide range of career building skill sets: building and managing a fast-growing and highly talented team, getting involved in business/division leadership, defining the growth strategy of the division, and managing a diverse set of very senior clients in a fun and energetic environment.
Responsibilities
- Client Engagements: The Engagement Manager will maintain oversight across several concurrent Value Creation engagements and will involve experts and other leaders as needed. The Engagement Manager’s mandate is to sustain deliverable quality and consistency, while serving as the client point of contact for broader account questions (approximately 50% of total time).
- Managerial/Professional Development Responsibilities: Engagement Managers will oversee a team of 1-3 Project Managers, Consultants, and Associates, the former of whom may also have direct reports (i.e., skip reports). The Engagement Manager will be expected to support and advise on the professional development of their direct reports, including skill-building, goal-setting, and coaching to help them achieve proficiency and eventual promotion/advancement (approximately 20% of total time).
- Business Development Responsibilities: As Engagement Managers develop a deeper understanding of Value Creation as a service, Engagement Managers are expected to proactively identify sales opportunities among current, new, and prospective clients, and lead proposal processes along with the Value Creation leadership and experts. (approximately 20% of total time).
- Sector Leadership Responsibilities: Engagement Managers are to support the overall management and development for Value Creation as a sector, including product and process development, financial reporting and planning, resource planning, and sector strategy together with the Value Creation leadership team (approximately 10% of total time).
Qualifications
- Skills: Project management/organization, communication, presentation, teamwork, and attention to detail will be key to success in this role. Strong writing, research, organization, qualitative reasoning, and business acumen are preferred.
- Experience: Top candidates will have 5+ years of experience in management consulting or a similar field. Previous experience working in ESG/Sustainability is preferred but not required.
- Education: Candidates who have demonstrated a track record of success in a rigorous academic environment.
- Mindset: In addition to being highly motivated, candidates should be passionate about solving business problems. Candidates must be self-starters, critical thinkers, highly organized, able to work independently, able to multitask, able to teach/coach/develop, and enjoy working in an informal work environment.
Additional Details
- Location: New York, in office at least 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays)
- Compensation: $155,000 plus full benefits package
